The French striker injured his ankle in a car crash over the weekend, and it’s feared he could be out for up to two months.

Given that Niang has a chequered history with traffic accidents, there has been speculation about the nature of the crash, which the player put down to aquaplaning.

“To put an end to the rumours and speculation, the only reason for the accident was the weather conditions,” Niang posted on his official Twitter page.

“My girlfriend and I are doing well, and my club has given a statement about my injury. A sincere thank you for your support.

“I’ll be back on the pitch soon.”
