Mile Svilar, who officially signed for Roma today on a free transfer after his contract expired with Benfica, underlined his excitement at the move to the Italian capital.

The 22-year-old Serbian goalkeeper spent five years with Benfica after joining from Anderlecht in a deal worth around €2.5m. He went on to make 23 appearances for the first team, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 20 goals.

Speaking via TuttoMercatoWeb, Svilar discussed his transfer to Roma and his excitement at working with Jose Mourinho.

“I am thrilled to be here and can’t wait to get started. When I heard about Roma’s interest I got excited. Being able to work with a coach like José Mourinho is incredible and I am ready to do everything I can to help the team.”

Svilar has signed a five-year contract with Roma, tying him to the club until 2027. He’ll be hoping earn a starting spot in Rome, surpassing current number one Rui Patricio.

The 22-year-old Serbian shot stopper has experience of Champions League football, making three appearances in the 2017-18 season. He spent last campaign with the Benfica B team, failing to make a single first team appearance.
