Another 111 deaths related to COVID-19 were registered in Italy over 24 hours, 67 of them in Lombardy, but new positive tests and active cases continued to fall.
The number of deaths jumped up again from 87 yesterday to 111 today, taking the total since the pandemic began on February 20 to 33,340.
Once again, Lombardy represents well over half of those deaths – 67 – along with 221 new positive cases in that region.
Nonetheless, there was a large protest today in Milan’s Piazza del Duomo aimed at reopening the country quicker.

There were no deaths in 11 out of 20 Italian regions today, one in the Marche and one in Sicily, so Lombardy is the only region with more than 10 deaths today.
Over the whole country, there were 416 new positive tests out of 69,342 swabs, an average of 0.6 per cent.
Another 2,789 patients have made a full recovery and the overall current active coronavirus cases in Italy fell by 2,848.
Hospitals continue to empty out after the worst of the crisis, as another 25 left intensive care (now 450), 414 were released from hospital (leaving 6,680) and 2,045 were given the all-clear, so there are now 36,561 people self-isolating at home with minor symptoms.
