Following Napoli’s draw with Salernitana, they will have to wait until their away trip to Udinese to possibly lift the Scudetto, a muted celebration that previous victors Milan and Inter both experienced.

The Partenopei had the chance to mathematically confirm their first league title in 33 years this afternoon in front of a packed Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but were held to a draw after a late equaliser from Boulaye Dia, spoiling the mood in the Campania capital.

Napoli will now have to wait until their away match with Udinese on May 4th to possibly secure their Scudetto, a disappointing situation for fans and the team alike.

Interestingly, the last two Serie A winners Milan and Inter both experienced similar muted celebrations when their Scudetti were confirmed.

For Milan, victory came on the final day of the 2021-22 season, when they travelled to Reggio-Emilia to face Sassuolo. Whilst their title was secured away from the Lombardy capital, the large number of Rossoneri fans in attendance at the Mapei Stadium helped the party get started.

Things were similarly lacklustre for Inter in the 2020-21 season. Antonio Conte’s side beat Crotone 2-0 away at the Stadio Ezio Scida on May 1st, a result that guaranteed their Serie A success when Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo the following day, when the Nerazzurri squad were resting at home.

So, whilst it isn’t a fairy tale ending to Napoli’s Scudetto charge, it continues the recent tradition of more muted title celebrations.
