There are doubts surrounding Angel Di Maria as the Italian press suggest that the 2022 World Cup winner withdrew from Juventus’ clash with Bologna in suspicious circumstances.

The 35-year-old Argentinian winger has had a turbulent year with the Bianconeri following his arrival on a free transfer last summer, having penned a one-year deal.

Di Maria initially failed to impress during his first half-season in Turin, leading to some Juventus fans to question his commitment in the run-up to the World Cup in Qatar. Since winning the tournament, his form has improved, but in recent weeks he’s again started to disappear in matches.

As reported by Tuttosport and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Di Maria only withdrew from Juventus’ match with Bologna – officially due to an ankle injury – after discovering that he wouldn’t be starting, raising doubts amongst some.

Di Maria has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 32 appearances this season for Juventus, but hasn’t contributed to a goal in his last nine games.
