An emotional Giacomo Raspadori tells Alessandro Del Piero when he decided to take a free-kick to Mike Maignan’s near post and why Matteo Politano had a key role in Napoli‘s equaliser against Milan.

The Partenopei recovered from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Milan at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday.

Raspadori scored the first goal from a direct free kick in Serie A this season, beating Milan keeper Maignan at his near post.

Juventus and Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero praised Raspadori during a post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia highlighting that the Napoli forward managed to curl the ball despite a powerful shot.

“It’s thrilling to hear him comment on my free kick,” Raspadori replied.

“I saw many of Del Piero’s free kicks and it doesn’t happen every day to hear these things from a master like him.”

When did you decide to kick it that way? Asked Del Piero.

“It was when Politano passed above the ball. When he did it, Maignan made a step [to his right],” revealed the Napoli striker.

“My first idea was to go over the wall, but when I saw him making that step, I changed my mind and decided to target his near post.”

Napoli currently sit fourth in the Serie A table with 18 points, four below third-placed Milan. Fiorentina could leapfrog the Partenopei tonight if they beat Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, as the Tuscans sit fifth with 17 points and a game in hand.
