Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis has claimed that he rejected over €50m for Edinson Cavani before the start of this season.
“Last summer I was offered €55m for Cavani and I decided not to sell him,” the movie mogul told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Instead, I gave him a new contract by offering him some important money.
“Then, in September, we sat down and decided on his rescission clause. If someone wants him now, they’ll have to give me €63m.”
The Uruguayan international, born in 1987, was signed by the Azzurri in 2010 for a fee of around €17m from Palermo.
Since then, the centre-forward has scored 88 goals in 117 games for the Stadio San Paolo giants.
Cavani has 13 League goals so far this season, just one shy of Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy – Serie A’s current top scorer in 2012-13.
