A few journalists from Naples openly blamed referee Istvan Kovacs and UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer Roberto Rosetti in the mixed zone of the Stadio Meazza last night and the Partenopei have reacted, ‘condemning’ the protest.

Napoli suffered a 1-0 loss at San Siro on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Referee Kovacs was in the spotlight with many controversial decisions, including a red card for Napoli midfielder André Zambo Anguissa, a yellow card for Kim Min-jae who will be suspended for the return leg, and a late Milan penalty appeal denied.

Luciano Spalletti also complained because Rafael Leao was not booked after kicking a corner flag, destroying it in the first half.

A few journalists from Naples targeted the Romanian official walking in front of them in the mixed zone after the game, followed by former Serie A referee Rosetti, now serving as UEFA Chief Refereeing Officer.

They shouted: ‘Bad game’ and ‘Vergogna’, shame in Italian and Rosetti didn’t look impressed.

Napoli have officially reacted with a brief statement published on Twitter.

“SSC Napoli strongly condemns the protest of some journalists against the referees, occurred in the mixed zone at the end of the match Milan-Napoli,” the club said.
