Martin Caceres is still a free agent and Napoli are ready to offer him a contract after Vlad Chiriches’ injury.

The Romania international will be out for three to four weeks after surgery for a torn meniscus ligament, though it’s much less serious than previously feared.

Nonetheless, the Partenopei want more options at the back, especially with Kalidou Koulibaly and Faouzi Ghoulam leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

According to SportItalia, Napoli are approaching Caceres again after they had been close a few weeks ago.

The Uruguayan’s contract with Juventus expired this summer and he has been training on his own in Como.

Several clubs were linked, including Inter and Roma, but so far Caceres has not found a club.

He’d be particularly valuable for his versatility, as he can play as a full-back, central defender or even in midfield.
