Having finished third last season, Napoli are currently sixth – but a massive 10 points behind leaders Juventus.

Walter Mazzarri has admitted that his Napoli team have much to learn after the 1-1 draw with Bologna. “We’re not great yet.”

The Azzurri have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, but their Serie A form has suffered as a result.

Having finished third last season, Napoli are currently sixth – but a massive 10 points behind leaders Juventus.

“We had a lot of players who were below par,” the tactician stated after Edinson Cavani’s penalty earned them a point at the San Paolo. “The pitch didn’t help either.

“The team wasn’t very lucid and sometimes we want to attack so much that we then lose our balance.

“We are not a great team yet, we have to understand that and grow. It’s true that we have beaten Manchester City this season, but that was a real miracle.”

However, the former Livorno and Sampdoria tactician did have to concede that Bologna didn’t make it easy for his troops.

“More often than not, teams who come to the Stadio San Paolo defend in an exaggerated manner – playing for two results out of three.

“A few incidents also went against us today. Take Marek Hamsik who missed in front of the goalkeeper. That was like an open-play penalty…”

Napoli resume their Serie A campaign at Siena in Week 19.
