Napoli fans gathered outside the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this evening to mark two years since El Pibe de Oro’s death, putting on a show he would’ve appreciated.

The legend passed away on November 25, 2020 from heart failure in his house in Buenos Aires at the age of 60.

He won two Serie A titles with Napoli, the UEFA Cup, the Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup, while he took Argentina to the 1986 World Cup triumph.

There are still numerous murals on the walls of Naples dedicated to Maradona and the Stadio San Paolo was renamed in his honour just days after his death.

This evening, fans gathered outside the arena to mark the occasion the way he’d have appreciated, with fireworks, flares and the chants he always responded to so passionately inside the stadium.

Among those present was Diego Armando Maradona Junior, the son he had with a local fan.
