Radja Nainggolan “had other offers, but I am convinced we can win with Roma” and put Barcelona behind them.

The midfielder had been heavily linked with Juventus and Manchester United last summer, but the Giallorossi finally struck a deal with Cagliari to make his move permanent.

“I had other offers, but I wanted to stay. I am convinced we can win with Roma and these fans deserve it,” ‘Ninja’ told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“I had other offers, but I wanted to stay. I am convinced we can win with Roma and these fans deserve it,” ‘Ninja’ told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“I also said that I would never join a direct competitor. Roma have a strong squad, we’ve got the talent and just need to improve a few aspects. We’ve got to put the puzzle together so all the pieces fit perfectly.

“The defeat to Barcelona was a heavy blow, as you can lose to them, but 6-1 was over the top. Perhaps we got distracted by Bayer Leverkusen’s draw at BATE Borisov, meaning we only needed a draw in the final game.

“It was a bad performance and we have to forget about it quickly. It might seem as if we were in shock after that, but I am sure we’ll get back on track.”

Nainggolan hopes 2016 can be the year of Kevin Strootman, who has barely been off the treatment table for 18 months.

“I hope we’ll be able to win something together. Strootman is a very unlucky player and will be with us soon. Even if the Coppa Italia has gone, we are still in the running for the Scudetto and I have faith.”
