Speaking to Sky Sport Italia on Friday, Nainggolan also reflected on Roma’s derby win against Lazio and defeat to Atletico Madrid, as well as looking forward to Saturday’s clash with Genoa.

“’Superhero’ after the derby? I have a good relationship with everyone here and I try to give my best,” the Belgian told the broadcaster.

“This relationship with a team is a good thing. Genoa? We’re focused on Sunday’s game, we talked a lot after Atletico and we’ll play this game like we always have.

“How do I feel physically? I’m fine, I had a problem but overcame it. Obviously, I felt it a bit when I was playing with it, but they can count on me.

“We have to compliment Atleti because they’re a great team. Losing to them is no cause for drama.

“We’re sticking together, still in a good run of form and on track for the knockout stages. No-one would’ve bet on us being here.”

“My derby goal? For me, the derby’s an important match and a goal is always enjoyable, but facing every team is important and now we have to think about Genoa.

“We’re thinking game by game and our results will decide where we’ll finish. New stadium? It would be great and I hope it can be done.

“As a player, I can only wait and hope that everything goes the best it can. Italy out of the World Cup? It’ll be strange to have a World Cup without Italy.

“I’m sorry because they have some great players, a few of whom are my teammates.”
