Despite Adriano Galliani’s belief to the contrary, reports today suggest Milan will be making a move to replace Nigel de Jong in January.

The Dutch midfielder is facing a lengthy spell out of action for the Rossoneri, after damaging his Achilles tendon.

Facing the prospect of immediate surgery after consultation due on Tuesday, De Jong is set to be replaced in the winter transfer market.

Corriere dello Sport believe that Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman are the initial targets identified.

Strootman is seen as similar in playing style to Mark van Bommel, whilst Belgian and former Juventus target Nainggolan is believed to be of particular preference to Coach Massimo Allegri.

However, a major barrier to making a move for either player is seen in their cash values. PSV are understood to be asking for no less than €20m for their midfielder, whilst Cagliari were reportedly steadfast a year ago in dealing with Juve’s offers for Nainggolan.
