Former Inter, Roma and Cagliari midfielder Radja Nainggolan believes the Nerazzurri are still the favourite to win the Scudetto and hints that Dries Mertens’ lack of playing time may be linked with his uncertain future at Napoli.

Milan are the Serie A table leaders with a four-point lead over Inter, who have a game in hand. Napoli are between the Milanese sides, three points off the Rossoneri.

“Inter are still the favourite, I believe they have something more than their opponents,” Nainggolan told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Napoli must work like they had nothing left to win. Luciano Spalletti is a born winner. He is surely targeting the Serie A title, otherwise, why join a strong team as Napoli?”

The Partenopei beat Hellas Verona 2-1 yesterday, but their striker Dries Mertens is struggling with playing time. His contract at the Stadio Maradona runs out in the summer.

“I know Spalletti respects Mertens, he feared him when he was playing against him. I don’t know if the club is behind his lack of playing time, given that his contract expires in the summer. You know very well how football works…”
