“This year the objective is to improve on last season,” Nainggolan confirmed in an interview with Sky.

“We started off badly but the last two wins have put us back on track and we hope to continue like this.

“There’s a long way to go, but we’ve won two important games and we want to move forward.

“I want to win, that’s for sure. I’ve always given everything on the pitch, but I’ve never lifted a trophy.

“Maybe the right time has come but I want to keep my head down because I’m used to talking about things that didn’t come, so it might be better to keep quiet.

A big part of Nainggolan’s decision to move to the capital was Spalletti, with former Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini revealing the pair both stayed at Trigoria to keep the midfielder out of trouble.

“I was very happy with him at Roma and we got important results. I hope to do the same with him here too, even if the club wanted me too.

“I don’t want to talk about Roma anymore, I’m here and I’m focused.

“Did we sleep at Trigoria? Yes, I was to stay there for three nights and he came over for one.”

One aspect of his time in the capital the Belgian will discuss is playing with club legend Francesco Totti.

“Playing with him was one of the most beautiful moments of my career. I keep in touch with him, and I hope when I see him he’ll give me a copy of his autobiography.”
