Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan believes Roma can still progress in the Champions League, but admits a 2-0 defeat to Bayern was ‘fair’.

The Giallorossi lost in Bavaria, but CSKA Moscow’s shock win away to Manchester City means that Roma are assured of qualification if they are victorious in their final two Champions League games.

Belgian midfielder Nainggolan insisted that Roma had put up a far better fight than their showing in Munich.

“The important thing for us was to show the spirit of this team and I think we did a really good job because they did not have a lot of chances,” Nainggolan told UEFA’s official website.

“We even had two or three opportunities to score but in the end I think 2-0 is a fair result. We are still second and still in with a chance of qualifying.

“We adapted better to their style. We were more defensive, which made it more difficult for them. When we had the ball we tried to play on the counterattack.

“Sometimes it went well, but most of the time it didn't – so we have to keep working hard.

“But the Champions League is a new competition for a lot of us and if we keep working hard we can become a good team even in Europe.”
