Roma coach Jose Mourinho used his Instagram account to go on an unexpected rant about a growing habit he sees in players around the globe. ‘Approved by the football authorities…’

The Special One took to social media to vent his frustration on the tendency of players to rip holes in their socks for games.

Some do this because they find the material scratchy, others to give themselves more freedom of movement, but a few of the images chosen by Mourinho showed players taking the idea a little too far, leaving them with barely more than rags around their legs.

“Beautiful socks for the Beautiful Game… Approved by the football authorities,” wrote the Portuguese tactician.

Roma famously had Radja Nainggolan who loved to tear his socks, but a few eyebrows were raised by this post.

A few fans and members of the media suggest Mourinho was instead sending a message about other issues ‘approved by the football authorities,’ especially in the wake of the Premier League announcing it has charged Manchester City with a series of alleged financial irregularities.

Mourinho was fairly recently their rival on the bench of Manchester United.
