José Mourinho analysed Roma‘s 2-0 against Real Sociedad in Europa League saying that at some point he thought about Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry, Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane: ‘One of them would be enough for me.’

The Giallorossi secured a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

Stephan El Shaarawy scored the opener in the first half and Mourinho explained why the Italy international was picked over his compatriot Leonardo Spinazzola.

“It was a strategic and tactical choice. It wasn’t easy to choose because I only had a striker on the bench given that Ola Solbakken is not on the Europa League list,” said the Giallorossi boss.

“Against PSG, Bayern had Gnabry, Mané and Sané on the bench, just one of them would be enough for me. Like this, I could have replaced Dybala and perhaps score one more goal.”

El Shaarawy has now scored four goals in 27 appearances across all competitions. His goal against Real Sociedad was in first in Europa League this season.

Bayern Munich beat Gigio Donnarumma and Marco Verratti’s PSG 3-0 on aggregate in the Champions League Round of 16, qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Mourinho continued analysing Thursday’s victory against Real Sociedad saying that his team managed to control the match despite having less possession and that he couldn’t ask for more.
