Jose Mourinho is not in the stands to watch Roma’s match against Sassuolo, but Giallorossi fans are putting on a ‘pañolada’ protest.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 17.00 GMT.

Mourinho was handed a two-match touchline ban for his row with fourth official Marco Serra during the 2-1 defeat to Cremonese.

He initially won an appeal to suspend the sentence pending further investigation, but it was confirmed on Friday.

The Special One has been given several touchline bans since returning to Italy for Roma last season and takes his very own special approach, refusing to sit in the stands or a special sky box.

Instead, he has tended to remain in the team bus or a back room inside the stadium, away from prying eyes, where he can communicate in peace with his staff, watching the game on television.

Meanwhile, Roma fans are putting on a protest before kick-off, waving white handkerchiefs in what the Spanish call a ‘pañolada.’

Mourinho will be banned for today’s game with Sassuolo and next week’s Derby della Capitale against Lazio.

The club is also protesting by ordering a media blackout, so no players or employees will speak to the press.
