The legal battle continues ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League game at the Stadio Maradona, as local authorities in Naples issued a new order banning anyone resident in Frankfurt from attending the match with Napoli.

The situation has been dragging on for some days, as initially the local prefect had barred all sale of tickets to residents of Germany, citing security risks.

The German lawyers won an appeal to have that verdict overturned earlier this week, much to the chagrin of the Italian police.

Today a new statement was released by the prefect, Claudio Palomba, with a more limited banning order.

Only those fans who cite their residence as Frankfurt will be barred from attending the match.

Seeing as Eintracht Frankfurt has a very localised fanbase, that is practically all of the 2,700 who would’ve made the journey.

The latest ruling is more limited in scope, pointing towards the danger posed by Eintracht supporters who were involved in tussles with local police at the weekend in their match against VfB Stuttgart.

There were already clashes between Eintracht Frankfurt and Napoli fans ahead of the first leg in Germany on February 21.

Because these were not inside or near the stadium, but around the city with ambush attacks, there are fears of repeats in Naples.
