UEFA have fined Roma and handed Jose Mourinho a four-match ban after their behaviour on the night of the Europa League final loss to Sevilla.

The Giallorossi took the lead in their European final but an own goal by Gianluca Mancini drew the Spanish side level, pushing the game to penalties. Sevilla ultimately won the shoot-out, leaving Roma heartbroken after the full-time whistle.

Mourinho did not take the defeat well and was filmed insulting referee Anthony Taylor in a car park after the match. The Englishman was later subjected to abuse from travelling Roma fans in the airport whilst returning home.

UEFA announced today that Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban in UEFA club competitions due to his insults towards Taylor. Roma secured qualification to the Europa League for next season, so he’ll miss the first four group stage games.

The Giallorossi were handed a €50,000 fine and prohibited from selling tickets to one away match due to the presence of fireworks in the stands, the launching of objects, acts of criminal damage and general crowd disturbance. They were also fined €5000 for the team’s conduct.

  1. STFU Mohammed. If you think Anthony Taylor’s performance was good, then you know nothing about football, so STFU!
