The Mexico international completed his transfer from PSV Eindhoven for €5.7m last month, but only arrived for pre-season training today due to Confederations Cup duty.

“It’s really exciting for me to be here. It’s a wonderful challenge, but also a marvellous opportunity to continue my growth,” Moreno told Roma TV.

“I am very happy and can’t wait to start this new challenge in my career. I consider myself a defender who likes to come out from the back with the ball at his feet. You must always be ready when it comes to defending, but Serie A is the kind of football where I’ll improve a lot, because I need to be aggressive.

“I had the opportunity to score many goals in recent years and hope to continue like that in future. I always say for me the most important thing is to not concede a goal rather than score one. If I get on the scoresheet and help my goalkeeper stay unbeaten, then that’s the ultimate aim.

“I have been in Europe for almost 10 years, played for big clubs where I learned a lot. Coming to Roma is certainly a very important step forward in my career towards a higher level of football compared to the one I am used to. I worked hard to get here and want to satisfy the expectations of this club.

“My main job is to help my teammates give their best. They are already great players, but if I can help each of them reach their full potential, then I’m happy to do that. The experience I gained at international level can be important there.

“I want to get settled as quickly as possible into this great club and city so I can then enjoy what interests me the most: football.

“As far as team objectives are concerned, naturally we are targeting the Scudetto. I know Roma want to challenge for the title and need to challenge for the title, so I am here to help them achieve this aim.

“I know the Roma fans are very passionate, you can tell that in every game and even more so in Francesco Totti’s final match. It made a big impact and I am happy to play in front of such a crowd at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I hope they always support us, because together with them it’ll be easier to fight for our targets.”
