Former Inter President Massimo Moratti was not impressed with the 1-0 Champions League win over Liverpool. ‘We threw that opportunity away and lacked courage.’

The result of the second leg was 1-0 at Anfield thanks to a Lautaro Martinez strike, but they still went out 2-1 on aggregate at the Round of 16.

Simone Inzaghi’s men earned applause for their performance and victory, but Moratti couldn’t help but feel they deserved more.

“We threw that opportunity away, because with a bit more courage at the end perhaps we could’ve done something more,” Moratti told reporters at a charity event.

Inzaghi was criticised for his substitutions after Alexis Sanchez was sent off and his team reduced to 10 men, introducing only Joaquin Correa for Lautaro Martinez.

Edin Dzeko, Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo all remained on the bench throughout at Anfield.

  1. Yes there was the sensation that Liverpool were more than happy to lose 0-1 and Inter to win 1-0. If Inter had scored a second goal I am sure you would have seen Liverpool step it up another gear and go for teh jugular. Which Inter should have done but did not. Although admittedly getting that red card a minute after the goal just killed any momentum. Yes Sanchez, the lion was let out of the cage and see want happens. Last year it was Barella getting an asinine red card to kill Inter’s chances. Another games last year it was Vidal coming on and getting two yellows in a minute. And now Sanchez does the same. Hard to understand how Inter keeps doing this.

  2. Yes, what ever you say crooked man. Fortunately for Inter, Liverpool did not turn up in both games yet still won the tie. Inter played at 100% of their capacity but it was still not good enough.

  3. #Cypher The level of rot in the Italian system was shawn in 2006. But these juventini lives in denial like a Trump raving about vining election and everybody knows it is a fantasy. Serie B! ahahahahaha Serie B!

  4. Droga – keep twisting the truth. Everyone knows what happened with the Inter phone tapes. Your club is the most corrupt of all yet was not punished in 2006. A major stain on the Italian game is Moratti.

  5. Frankie, you can persuade yourself anything you want but simple facts like convictions and punishments still stands. Like I said fantasy all you say. That filthy club of yours cheated and got to be Serie B champion and it hurts so what do you do? Yes, you blame others. Sore looser.
