Spezia have introduced an interesting new charity drive to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees, selling tickets for seats that cannot be filled.

The stadiums in Italy never did open back up to 100 per cent after the initial lockdown in March 2020, at most reaching 75 per cent capacity.

That is the level they are currently at in the Peninsula as well, so not all the seats in their stadiums can be filled.

Spezia decided to sell symbolic tickets for the remaining 25 per cent of the arena, so you won’t be able to enter the Stadio Alberto Picco, but you can send a donation to Save the Children.

For every donation, a shirt will be placed on the empty seat and you can choose the phrase you want printed on it as part of the choreography in the stands.

The club announced that 50 per cent of the proceeds from all the tickets sold for this weekend’s Serie A game against Cagliari will go to the campaign to rescue Ukrainian refugees, but 100 per cent of these ‘virtual’ tickets will go to Save the Children.
