Bayer Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane believes their playing style and the lack of the away goals rule means there will be a ‘very entertaining and exciting’ Europa League clash with Atalanta.

The first leg kicks off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Thursday at 20.00 GMT.

“Atalanta are solid, aggressive and very attack-minded, so we must be able to attack them without losing our defensive shape,” said Seoane in his press conference.

“It’s true that they are missing some important players, but it’s a style of football they have implemented for the last four or five years that allows them to be versatile. We are preparing to play them as a team, not based on individuals.

“It’s a very interesting clash, because both teams play without fear on their travels. The absence of the away goals rule too should help make it a very entertaining and exciting tie.”

Kerem Demirbay sits out a ban for the first leg, so the coach was asked how he will replace the midfielder.

“I have Exequiel Palacios, who defends very well and can also help give us something going forward. Florian Wirtz and Moussa Diaby have both really improved and matured. They have superior talent and quality, proving themselves decisive in the past.”
