Several media sources in Italy claimed Moratti had a private meeting with Gasperini and technical director Marco Branca today, which lasted an hour.

“A meeting with Gasperini? That is completely wrong information,” insisted Moratti when asked by journalists this evening.

Nonetheless, Sky Sport Italia, Datasport and others insist the meeting went very well and Gasperini could sign a contract with Inter as early as tomorrow.

The fate of the Nerazzurri bench remains a mystery with Lille boss Rudi Garcia and Quique Sanchez Flores of Athletico Madrid joining the list.

The likes of Guus Hiddink, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Delio Rossi have been mentioned since the start of the search.
