The Nerazzurri started their chase for a new Coach when Leo decided to become a director general at Paris Saint-Germain, although there has never been a formal resignation or notice that he has quit.

“Leonardo is still the Inter Coach,” insisted Moratti this evening. “He hasn't left yet, it's just he was given the freedom to see if there was a chance of taking on another role, because his primary job in life is not to be a tactician.

“In any case, I could just recall Leonardo. Would that be possible? Of course.”

It was reported today that Moratti and technical director Marco Branca had a meeting with Gasperini, making him the new favourite.

“I haven't decided anything yet, but you wouldn't be lying if you said we are interested in him,” confessed the President.

“We have evaluated the man, who is excellent, and a great professional. That evaluation is thanks to all the work we've seen him do over the past few years.”

Sky Sport Italia and Datasport maintain ex-Genoa boss Gasperini could sign an Inter contract as early as tomorrow.
