“We did talk about this game between Spain and Italy, so I already told him I want the shirt he’s wearing tomorrow. He promised to swap it with me.

“I am happy to be taking part in this game. Every call-up for Spain feels incredible. Tomorrow we’ll be in a bit of an emergency situation, but we’ll still have our say.”

At the weekend Buffon set a new all-time Serie A record by going 974 minutes without conceding a goal.

Sebastiano Rossi’s record of 929 minutes had stood since 1994.
