Monza had their request to postpone Monday’s match against Bologna rejected, but will wear special shirts for Pablo Mari and a hold a minute’s silence for the cashier killed in the supermarket attack.

Pablo Mari, a defender on loan from Arsenal with option to buy, was shopping with his wife and their young child when he was stabbed in the back by a stranger who had taken a knife from the shelves.

The 46-year-old attacker went on to stab five others, killing cashier Luis Fernando Ruggieri.

Monza had asked to have Monday’s game postponed due to the trauma suffered by his teammates, but the Lega Serie A refused.

Instead, Monza will wear special shirts dedicated to Pablo Mari before kick-off, with his name on the back and a message on the front urging him to recover quickly.

He is expected to be out for three months after surgery and was released from hospital this morning.

A minute’s silence will be held before kick-off for cashier Luis Fernando Ruggieri, who was killed in the supermarket in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan.

Arsenal also dedicated their Premier League goals against Nottingham Forest to Pablo Mari today, holding up his Gunners jersey.
