Vincenzo Montella has reiterated Catania’s seriousness in pushing for European qualification this season.

Sitting two places and five points behind Roma in sixth – a position likely to yield a Europa League spot given Napoli and Juventus’ place in the Coppa Italia final – in-form Catania are being touted as an outside bet to qualify for Europe this season.

Montella, in taking time to warn his players of weekend opponents Chievo, confirmed that the club is determined not to take satisfaction from previous work just yet.

“We’re never content, we want to progress with confidence and balance,” he told reporters on Friday.

“For us it is a very important test. Chievo shines in the positive and negative transitions of play, has team spirit and is a very solid team.

“We will need to focus and show intelligence, but also courage and technique. We need to be ready to play a very complex game – the Gialloblu don’t let you play and then they hit you.

“The first game [between the teams] matured the side for adverse conditions. Typically we draw games like that, at worst.”
