This follows their 2-0 victory away to Milan and Thursday’s win over Pandurii that qualified them for the Europa League knockouts.
“The team was eager to fightback and win in Romania even after we went behind, so that means we’ve got the hunger,” said Montella in his Press conference.
“It will be a delicate encounter tomorrow, because it is the end of a long run of important games. Samp need points and are missing several players, even if Delio Rossi has traditionally done his best against strong teams when he was the underdog.”
The Coach confirmed David Pizarro and Massimo Ambrosini are unavailable, while he is “not interested” in the result of Juventus–Napoli.
“Perhaps on home turf we feel the pressure of having to win big, so we must shake that off. They will clam up and it will require patience. We focus only on victory, on improving our position in the table.
“We hope to have Mario Gomez back after the break for international duty and I’m certain he’ll give us something more. I liked the way Josip Ilicic interpreted the game in Romania and I expect a lot from him.”
Borja Valero is surprisingly not called up for international duty with Spain, despite his wonderful performances for Fiorentina.
“For the moment I am happy he isn’t called, as at least he can rest, but for the World Cup I hope he can be there along with Gonzalo Rodriguez. Borja is becoming a symbol of the team and the city.
