The Coach arrived in the summer as part of an overhaul both on the pitch and behind the scenes at the Florence outfit and according to Mencucci, is the reason why La Viola are in the top four at the moment.
“It’s a good time for us, objectively being fourth is wonderful because it changes the whole team. This position is certainly nice to be in, but we must keep our feet on the ground,” Mencucci began today to reporters upon arrival at the FIGC’s offices.
“The director of this has been [Vincenzo] Montella, also Prade and Masia, but Montella is the true director, he is really good, he is very well prepared as are his staff, I hope he can stay here with us to win something.
“Can we get to Europe? When you are fourth then yes, but there are so many games to go and many competitive teams like Milan behind us, who occupy positions they are not meant to be in, also Roma.
“Do we need a striker? I disagree. If we are fourth then that means the team is doing well.”
Mencucci was again asked if there was any truth to suggestions earlier in the year that the Della Valle brothers intended to sell Fiorentina.
“When there are negative moments, such suggestions come out, but the Della Valles have never wanted to sell, they have restarted a new cycle and invested so much.”
