Vincenzo Montella has admitted that he is delighted with the news that Juan Cuadrado will be staying at Fiorentina.

Owner Andrea Della Valle confirmed earlier today that the Colombia international will remain in Florence despite links of a move to Barcelona.

And the Coach, ahead of their first match of the new season against Roma, couldn’t hide his delight.

“I am happy, very happy indeed that Cuadrado is staying with us,” he told a Press conference.

“Juan is an important player for this club.

“Tomorrow is the start of a new season full of expectation. Now it’s down to what we do on the pitch, not the words in the Press.

“We have a lot of belief though. Now we have to turn that into a positive to take on to the pitch.

“We’ve struggled in the past against Roma – that’s for everyone to see. We can’t change that.

“But what we can change is the future. Roma are a strong team, who did well last year and have strengthened even further. But I’m confident in my lads.”

The tactician then commented on his side’s Europa League draw, that sees them face PAOK, Guingamp and Dinamo Minsk.

“We were the seeded team in that group, so we obviously have a slight advantage. It’s up to us to prove that advantage on the pitch though.”

The former striker was then asked about Giuseppe Rossi, who is out with another knee injury and his team’s pre-season preparations.

“I don’t know when Rossi will return. I feel sorry for the lads. But it’s something he’s handled before.

“I’m very pleased with our preparations however. We’ve been working really well all summer.

The former striker concluded by giving his opinion on the race for the title.

“I think Roma are very strong. They are favourites alongside Juventus and Inter, for me. The League has levelled up.”
