Vincenzo Montella says taking charge of Sampdoria ‘was my dream’ as he is presented as their new Coach.

The former Blucherchati striker was announced yesterday after Fiorentina agreed to rescind his contract.

Talks between the clubs had stretched on over the course of a week before his arrival was officially announced.

“Time seems to stand still,” he said at today’s Press conference.

“There’s a lot of emotion, I wanted it strongly. My dream was to coach Samp, even just for one day, since I started coaching the youth players at Roma.

“I can’t wait to start, the team is of a very high level.

“It was a long week, also exhausting, and only with the courage of the President did we manage to unlock this complicated situation.

“We must enjoy ourselves by following the club’s principals of the game and the values of the Sampdoria fans. The basics are there to go on this path together.

“You will get to know me. I don’t believe much in a way of playing, but in the principles of the game.

“I need to get to know the squad and the players. We will begin from the base of the great work done by Zenga.

“I’ve always recognised my affection for this place. It was last seen the last time when the fans gave me a round of applause.”
