Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero calls Vincenzo Montella “the wife” and Sinisa Mihajlovic “the lover”.

Both men have Coached the Blucerchiati and Milan in recent seasons, and Gazzetta dello Sport interviewed the Samp patron about both men.

“I’d say it like this: Montella is the wife and Sinisa is the lover,” Ferrero explained.

“I found Sinisa in Genoa, but I’d have chosen him 100 times. Montella is a great, but I now recognise that he wasn’t the ideal Coach for us.

“I found Sinisa in Genoa, but I’d have chosen him 100 times. Montella is a great, but I now recognise that he wasn’t the ideal Coach for us.

“One, Montella, is a little devil and the other is a Casanova. Vincenzo is a Neapolitan, a slicker. He puts gel in his hair but he’s still a little guy.

“Sinisa though, mamma mia. He’s always very elegant and fragrant, if you go into a room today which he was in two years ago you can still feel it.

“They’re completely opposite people, with a totally different approach with the players both on and off the pitch.

“Sinisa is passionate, he speaks, he says and he gets angry. Montella is colder, he gives out the tasks and expects them to be done.

“Mihajlovic is very strong willed, while Montella is more diplomatic, even if he has the same principles. I’d choose Mihajlovic today though.

“They’re two great workers, but different from each other. Montella is much more technological, I took him to Genoa because he’s a great Coach, he concentrates more on the play and less on contact.

“That’s not like Sinisa who is all about contact, he works on the mentality and the character, he’s a man inside and out.

“I’d go to dinner with both, and I still talk to them today. Vincenzo is fun and personable, he knows how to unplug, not just how to talk about football.

“Sinisa is my first love though… in football terms!”
