Roma sporting director Monchi says Atletico Madrid “are tougher to face than Chelsea” ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League match.

The three sides have been drawn together in a ‘Group of Death’, and the Giallorossi face the Spaniards tomorrow.

“Atletico Madrid are the most complicated opponents in the group,” Monchi told Movistar Plus.

“They’re a team that knows the tournament perfectly well and in my view are tougher to face than Chelsea.

“They’ve been working together for three to five years, with the same Coach [Diego Simeone] and rarely changing players.”

The Lupi had the weekend off, as their game with Sampdoria was postponed due to flooding, will that be an advantage?

“I don’t know if the Sampdoria game getting called off was necessarily a positive for Roma, because we haven’t played for over two weeks.”

This is the director’s first job outside of Sevilla, having taken over the role this summer.

“I am adapting to Italy, both on a personal and professional level,” Monchi said.

“In general, I am satisfied. Sevilla was my home for many years and I miss it, but now I am happy here.

“I am identifying with this new adventure and have to be faithful to a club like Roma that put its trust in me.”
