Juventus' disgraced former general manager Luciano Moggi claims he would now appoint Francesco Guidolin and once came close to hiring Arsene Wenger.

Speculation is mounting that Juventus will make a coaching change in June after just one season with Gigi Del Neri at the helm.

"I believe that Gian Piero Gasperini and Antonio Conte are two good trainers, but they wouldn't suit Juventus right now because they would need a strong and compact club behind them and in this moment Juventus isn't one," Moggi said.

"If I were at Juventus, I would hire Guidolin with my eyes closed. He is a Coach who has done well wherever he has been – Vicenza, Bologna, Palermo, Parma… And now with Udinese who are doing something incredible. He is ready for a big club.

"Arsene Wenger was a step away from Juventus before Fabio Capello arrived. But we chose Capello because he is the greatest of all in that he doesn't just occupy himself with training, but also enters into the complete management of the team both from a recruitment point of view and in managing the dressing room."

Asked about transfers that got away from him, Moggi said: "In 2001 Roma asked me for Edgar Davids: I replied: 'Give me €15m plus three players from the Primavera'. The three were Daniele De Rossi, Alberto Aquilani and Gaetano D'Agostino.

"Roma said 'no' because €15m was too much. If I had lowered the asking price to €10m plus those three, Roma would have accepted. This was my greatest mistake," he concluded.
