Inter defender Miranda believes they can finish third this season – “we have to go for it”.

The Nerazzurri were top of Serie A at Christmas, but a poor run of results has seen them fall to fifth, five points away from the third and final Champions League place.

However, having thrashed Juventus 3-0 in the Coppa Italia last night – though Roberto Mancini’s men were ultimately defeated on penalties – the Brazilian defender believes third-place is possible.

“We’re still in the hunt,” Miranda told Inter Channel.

However, having thrashed Juventus 3-0 in the Coppa Italia last night – though Roberto Mancini’s men were ultimately defeated on penalties – the Brazilian defender believes third-place is possible.

“We’re still in the hunt,” Miranda told Inter Channel.

“It’s tough but we can do it. Yesterday we showed we can compete. We’re not afraid of anyone.

“We need to play with pride and courage and be clinical, just like we were yesterday. We have to go for it, there’s not long left and I believe we can do it.

“If we can play like that against Juventus then we can do it against anyone. All of us need to be on top form.

“Palermo? I hope we play like we did yesterday. With the same character and organisation. If we play like that we can definitely win.”

Miranda was also asked about Mancini, who has come under pressure in recent weeks after the downturn in form.

“He’s helped me a lot as a player because he’s a coach with great character.

“He likes his sides to play good football and we always try to play as best we can to win. I’ll always give my all and keep trying to do more for him to repay his confidence in me.”
