Sergej Milinkovic-Savic insists he will only discuss his future ‘at the end of the season’ after a message from Lazio fans made it seem as if they realise he will not be staying beyond the summer.

The midfielder bagged a brace in this evening’s 3-2 thriller with Cremonese at the Stadio Olimpico, after the early Elseid Hysaj opener.

“It was a great evening, it could’ve ended better because we were 2-0 up and were about to ruin it. Fortunately we won and have many things to celebrate,” Milinkovic-Savic told DAZN.

There were emotions running high before and after the match, as the old glories who won the Coppa Italia 10 years ago were all present to mark the occasion, while it was Stefan Radu’s final game in the Lazio jersey before hanging up his boots.

They also guaranteed Champions League qualification and with this result are sure of at least a place in the top three this season.

“It has been a good campaign, this was our objective from the first day. We managed it and we are happy. It’s difficult to explain what changed under Sarri, but for two years we’ve been working in a completely new tactical system and the coach gave us a big hand.”

There was a banner raised in the stands during the final minutes that seemed to acknowledge a new contract is extremely unlikely.

‘Whether here or somewhere else, you will always be in our hearts. Sergej, Laziale for life.’

His deal is due to expire in June 2024, so a sale is necessary this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent.

Although Juventus, Inter and Milan have been linked, Lazio would be happier sending the Serbia international abroad.

“I have another year on my contract, we will talk about it at the end of the season. There is one more game to play.”
