Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic reveals the links with Napoli and Milan flatters him but insists he is in no rush sorting out his own future.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from Florence this summer, after having established himself as a key member at the Artemio Franchi.

The Serbia international claims there’s time and for now prioritises to develop with the Viola.

“The rumours about Milan and Napoli obviously make me happy, but I’m a Fiorentina player and I focus on my work to help the club improve,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are young, the time and the commitment are on our side.”

Milenkovic’s current deal with the Viola expires in June 2022 and he has no rush, prioritising to overcome current crisis and be ready for the resumption.

“The pandemic has slowed everything down,” he added. “There are other priorities.

“I hope we will return to play soon, to settle my future, there’s still time. I always look at how I can raise the bar, my goal is to win important trophies with my club and the national team.”

Milenkovic, capped 18 times by Serbia, has been compared to the former hero Nemanja Vidic.

“I’m Serbian and it can only please me, but I have a lot to do,” he confessed. “Vidic has always been an important reference.

“He was an incredible man-marker with so much technique and he made history in European football.

“I admire [Juventus captain Giorgio] Chiellini, he’s an example both on and off the pitch, a true leader.”

Regarding the constant rumours of departures from the Artemio Franchi in recent months, Milenkovic has praised teammate Federico Chiesa, another of the transfer targets in Florence.

“I told you how my situation is and how I intend to continue,” he said. “But I don’t know what Federico will choose.

“Chiesa is very good, young and already in the national side. It’s difficult to mark him, he has physique, technique and an incredible ability to change his pace."
