After months of speculation linking him to Inter and Juventus, now Nikola Milenkovic looks set to extend his contract with Fiorentina instead.

The defender is only under contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until June 2023 and was widely expected to leave this summer.

Inter and Juve both saw him as primary alternatives to their first choice, Gleison Bremer of Torino, and the Bianconeri were still pursuing the Serbian should Daniele Rugani move on.

However, today Milenkovic’s agent Fali Ramadani met with Fiorentina directors and coach Vincenzo Italiano, realising they wanted to continue together.

In another show of faith in the Viola project, Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more assure this will be a multi-year contract rather than the one-year extension he penned last summer, with the salary rising to €3m per season net.

That brief extension was because Fiorentina promised Milenkovic he could leave if the right offer came along, in the region of €15m, but Juve and Inter have both delayed making a firm proposal.

The 24-year-old Serbia international was also linked with Napoli and has been with Fiorentina since 2017.
