Divock Origi will undergo his Milan medical in the coming days and the Rossoneri may not sign a new centre-forward this summer.

The Belgium international will bolster Stefano Pioli’s option in attack and will battle Olivier Giroud for a starting spot in the first part of the season when Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be recovering from a knee injury.

The Swede will continue playing at least until 2023 and is expected to sign a new contract soon.

Although La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Rossoneri have also targeted Gianluca Scamacca in attack, Il Corriere della Sera and Sky Sport Italia maintain that Milan will not sign a new centre-forward in the summer unless Ante Rebic leaves.

The Croatia international is seen as their third option in attack or a backup for Rafael Leao on the left flank.

Andrea Belotti had been linked with a move to Milan, but the Italy international doesn’t seem to be a priority for the Serie A champions, who want to sign a new centre-back, a right-winger, a centre midfielder and an attacking midfielder after securing Origi’s services.

15 thought on “Milan’s striker dilemma as Origi prepares for medical”
  1. I don’t understand th need to go for botman and not to get a striker/attacking midfielder /right winger… We never struggled in defence, we’re getting kjaer back. We’re desperate for goals. How many times we had minimum chances or missed chances. If you need to save then go for belotti. Nothing wrong with him for free. At least he’ll guarantee us 10 goals

  2. I think the club’s priorities are in order. An attacking midfielder, a right winger and a center midfielder are the top priorities. Then they can think about center backs and strikers if they have any budget left.

Giroud, Origi and Rebic as third choice (before Zlatan recovers) seems like enough options for one striker position.

  3. I like Rebic. Didn’t do much this season but was very important before that. However, If it means we don’t miss out on Scamacca, I would happily let him go.

That’s a big Italian sports journalists IF though.

  4. The question is how much can Origi actually do!? He’s been getting crumbs of time in Liverpool for years, but he’s always making some kind of solid use of that time. Maldini probably thinks he can do a lot more than the current stats if given the right opportunity. I hope he’s right.

  5. I absolutely love Rebic. He’s a big game player.
Since Pioli himself mentioned the goal against Lazio is one of the most important goal for Milan to win the scudetto, it was Rebic who stole the ball and start that weird sequence of a goal.
Even though I hope for a new striker to come to Milan, I agree that it’s less priority once we got Oriqi. We also still have Lazetic.

If you really think about it, with the schedule ahead on next season, our squad depth is questionable.
Defence win you titles. If we want to compete both in Serie A and CL, we need a mix of good amount and experienced defenders.
There’s so much game to play and we only have 3 reliable central defender which is Tomori, Kalulu and Kjaer who’s btw, might not yet be fit when the season started. I would love to see Gabbia progress further, but I don’t quite see it happening anytime soon
Attacking Midfielder and right wing is obviously the weakest of Milan, we should definitely spend our biggest investment there.
I also don’t mind to add muscle in the double pivot since we lost Kessie on free transfer.

  6. They need depth to complete on 3 fronts. I’d say get Kaetelare who can play across the park behind the strikers. Botman will be neeeed given injuries that left us stretched the last leg of the season and then Renato. If the budget allows go for a low cost option such as Politano for the right-wing.

  7. No point in having a non scoring striker to make up the number’s like Belotti if u want to be competitive in all competition he would just be a wasted wage.
Better to invest in a attacking midfielder as a back up to Tonali

  8. I don’t understand this. We have 2 elder statesman in the center of attack with Ibra & Girould. Ibra is out for half the season. We need a proven striker.

  9. @DB Milan

What are you talking about!?!? We don’t need Scamacca, Origi is enough to bring us 20 goals and the champions league next season

  10. People are forgetting that Pobega and Adli are in the squad now. Adli can cover AM and Pobega can too, in 4321 formation. De Ketelaere added to these and Sanchez would sort our mid, with only cover players required.

  11. If Milan go into the new campaign with Origi and Giroud, then the team can kiss goodbye the opportunity of genuine progression into the Champions knockout rounds. At the highest level, keeping and having the ball is key. Playing giroud = long balls and then reliance on the midfield to pick up 2nd balls and knockdowns. the team needs a genuine modern centre forward. It might be difficult to obtain, but what are out scouts doing in South America etc?

  12. Liverpool have taken Núnez who was our unrealistic target they are now interested in Asensio again a pipe dream for us to actually get. Where we are wasting money on defenders we won’t really need kalulu as a centre back is doing well and development is solid…we have won the title but still feel like we have just finished 5th with the budget we are getting…it’s disrespectful to the history of this club how we can go from buying the best players in the world to now buying youngsters and selling on…we won’t be winning the UCL anytime soon and Liverpool the way they are moving in the market will probably get their 7th and match up quicker than we ever get further in that competition…Milan have again frustrated with me with their lack of urgency in the market

  13. Get Noa Lang to address the right wing position, Get Katereile to address the attacking midfielder position, get Sanches to replace Kessie, lastly get Botman or Bremer to add depth and quality at the back. And then we r ready to go, bring anyone
