Milan do not want to take Rafael Leao’s presence in the squad for granted and they reportedly have a plan to ward off interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old Portuguese forward was one of the leading figures in Stefano Pioli’s Scudetto winning squad last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 34 Serie A appearances. Leao is growing into a true star for Milan, which is why Luis Campos is keen to bring the 23-year-old to Paris.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan are looking to tie down Leao to a new long-term contract in order to fend off PSG’s interest. They’re aware that they’ll need to offer a deal close to the €7m net per season wages requested by the player’s agent.

For now the Rossoneri have no interest in selling the 23-year-old to PSG and they’re protected by a €150m release clause, but with Leao’s current deal expiring in 2024 they understand the importance of tying down their star forward, especially in an era where more players are leaving on free transfers.

  1. Lets be honest, If a offer over 100m would come at the end of the window, shouldn’t we sell?

That would COMPLETELY change the tables for us financially.

Love Leao, Love 100m, especially if it comes to a point where we could either a. lose him for free (like we done too many times now) or B. Sell him for scraps.

    Mind over feelings.

  2. PSG will only be interested when they sell neymar – however im actually surprised chelsea havent been interest in him

  3. @vik. I absolutely agree. The issue here is timing. Things are just not quite falling at the right time for us. The Redbird might be willing to commit to giving Leao what he wants, but the closing is after the transfer window closes. So if Leao isn’t renewed or sold before the closing of the window then the advantage goes to him when Redbird takes over the negotiation. He may ask for more and if he doesn’t get it he will be worth scraps in 2023, as you say. Meanwhile PSG is tightening their budget and probably won’t offer 100m until a big name there gets sold. Finally, if Leao does get sold at the tail end of the window it won’t give us time to use some of that money to find a replacement. Who will play LW? Origi? Rebic? It would represent an overall downgrade in a season where we’re hoping to defend the title and qualify from the CL group stage.

  4. I wouldn’t sell him for 100m this summer if he doesn’t renew. He’s too important right. It should be either his release clause so that we basically couldn’t do anything about it or keep him anyway and try to renew for another year. With Redbird completing take over things might change. They may increase the salary limits.

  5. @ Milan Fan Because I don’t really buy into this notion that there are these super human players and most players are an injury or dip in form away from being yesterday’s news, I’d sell him if we got an offer of over 100m. It’s a bit like El Shaaraway after his break out season. Now could be the highest value he ever reaches. He could easily drop form or get injured next season. And we have Rebic who must be due an injury free season soon.
