Milan’s ambitious assault for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has reportedly been moved forward to January.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Alessio Romagnoli “needs a reliable partner” as Gustavo Gomez “hasn’t convinced”, Cristian Zapata is still “recovering from a serious injury and Gabriel Paletta, “while having his best season with the Rossoneri, probably won’t be the unmovable defender Milan need to re-enter Europe”.

Consequently, Milan’s new Chinese owners “want to get serious” in January by bidding €30m for Godin as opposed to earlier reports that claimed they would only consider such business next summer.
Behind the Diavolo’s thinking is Inter’s swoop of Godin’s former defensive partner Miranda and the Uruguayan being able to “assist and guide Romagnoli”.
The stopper’s contract does not expire until 2019, but his place for Los Rojiblancos is being increasingly threatened by the continued breakthroughs of Jose Maria Gimenez and Lucas Hernandez.
