Milan striker Olivier Giroud scored his fourth goal of the World Cup to beat England and send France through to the semi-final. ‘It was a solid, generous performance.’

The 36-year-old is on track for the Golden Boot after finding the net four times in as many appearances for Les Bleus in Qatar.

He got his head to an Antoine Griezmann cross this evening to seal the 2-1 victory over England, thanks also to Harry Kane blasting a penalty over the bar late on.

“It was a great match, we knew the potential that this generation of England players had, it was a solid, generous performance, we tried to respond to their attacks,” Giroud told reporters.

“It reminded me a little of the match against Belgium in 2018.

“I am very proud of this team and hope we will go as far as possible.”

That means Giroud has 53 goals in 118 senior caps and his France’s all-time top scorer, having already surpassed Thierry Henry’s previous record of 51.

France will face Morocco in the semi-final, while the other clash is between Argentina and Croatia, so all four teams have a strong Serie A representation.

Thank god the equilibrium of the footballing world and balance is safe once again from these long ball, fish and chip, hoof it route one merchants.
