It was good and bad for Milan players in the World Cup quarter-final for France against England, as Olivier Giroud scored the winner, while Theo Hernandez gave away a penalty that Harry Kane then missed.

The incidents occurred within a few minutes in the closing stages of the game in Qatar, which sends France through to face Morocco in the semi-finals.

First Giroud got his head to an Antoine Griezmann cross from the left, aided by a slight deflection at the near post.

This was his fourth goal in just four World Cup games in Qatar and consolidated his status as France’s all-time top scorer.

Then moments later Theo Hernandez made a completely pointless barge into the back of Mason Mount to give away a penalty, the decision given following a VAR on-field review.

However, his blushes were saved by Kane blasting the spot-kick over the bar, having converted one earlier in the game to equalise.
