Torino President Urbano Cairo insists Milan target Alessandro Buongiorno ‘won’t leave’ in January: ‘He’s happy to stay.’

Buongiorno, 24, has emerged as Milan’s primary defensive target in the January window. The Italy international had snubbed a move to Atalanta last summer but met his agent on Tuesday night to discuss a potential January transfer to the Stadio Meazza.

However, Torino President Cairo is unwilling to sell his star defender and captain this month, as he confirmed in an interview with Tuttosport on Thursday.

“I said it already last week, and I repeat it. He [Buongiorno] is not up for sale and he’s happy to stay,” said the Granata President and owner.

“This past August, when he decided to stay with us rather than join Atalanta, I told him: ‘You are so important to us.’ I repeat the same thing now, even more firmly.”

Cairo added that the relationship with Buongiorno’s agent, Beppe Riso, and Milan is “excellent”; nevertheless, he is not considering selling Buongiorno this month.

According to Tuttosport, Milan have offered €15m plus Lorenzo Colombo, who is currently on loan at Monza and is valued at €15m.

On the other hand, Torino value Buongiorno at €40m, so the Rossoneri’s offer is nowhere near their demands.

Buongiorno is contracted at the Stadio Grande Torino until 2028. He made his senior Italy debut in June 2023 and currently has two international appearances to his name.
