After the senior squad reached the Champions League quarter-final, now Milan have eliminated Atletico Madrid to qualify for the UEFA Youth League Final Four.

The Rossoneri are coached by former Milan defender Ignazio Abate and this afternoon saw off Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the quarter-final.

Midfielder Dariusz Stalmach scored early on, before Gabriele El Hilali sealed the result in the second half with the aid of a deflection.

Milan will face either Borussia Dortmund or Hajduk Split in the Final Four, which is staged in Nyon from April 21-24.

Sporting CP knocked out Liverpool and will play either Real Madrid or AZ Alkmaar in the semi-final on April 21.

It is a big result for Italian football, because only twice before had a side from the Peninsula reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League.

They were preceded by Roma in 2014-15 and Juventus in 2021-22, both going out in the semi-final stage.

Milan have invested heavily in the youth academy and are hoping to bring more talents through to bolster the senior squad, after many years of this being a rare occurrence.
