“I’ve studied Milan and see a team that is enjoying its football,” said the Empoli Coach in his Press conference.

“They are all good with the ball, have clear ideas and know how to score goals. They are all at the disposal of their Coach and that doesn’t happen by chance. I compliment Gattuso, as his team gives off the sense they have a strong leader.

“I worked with Alessio Romagnoli and Fabio Borini at Roma. Romagnoli was a baby when I met him, now he’s a man and the heritage of Italian football. Luis Enrique really admired Borini and I’m happy he is back in Serie A.”

Empoli started the season with a victory over Cagliari, but it has been all downhill from there.

“We’ve got to be careful not to repeat the mistakes we made against Sassuolo. It is in the DNA of this club and our President to play beautiful football. We know results are important too, but we believe results arrive via good football. That is our philosophy and we want to make beauty also effective.

“I don’t think frustration could set in, as we are well aware of what we’ve done, although of course results are necessary to keep the confidence up.”

Miha Zajc is suspended and Rade Krunic has shaken off an injury, but absentees include Manuel Pasqual, Afriyie Acquah and ex-Milan full-back Luca Antonelli.
